Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm of Bentsbrook, North Holmwood - highly prolific Anglo-Hungarian sculptor much favoured by Queen Victoria. Many of his statues of notable Victorians can still be seen around London.
Cuthbert Eden Heath of Anstie Grange - the pioneer of non-marine insurance at Lloyds of London who transformed it into a modern institution in the early 20th century. He opened his home as a military hospital during the First World World War.
Admiral Sir Leopold Heath of Moorhurst and Anstie Grange - commander of transport at Balaclava during the Crimean War who had a swashbuckling naval career and made a fortune at the height of the Empire. For further information on the Heath family see www.jjhc.info
John Langdon Davies of the Sundial, South Holmwood - campaigning journalist and historian who founded the international charity, PLAN, during the Spanish Civil War. He wrote the Home Guard Fieldcraft manual in the Second World War and published a huge body of journalism and history.
Francis Seymour Larpent of Holmwood House (later Park) - Judge-Advocate to the forces under the Duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War; later divorce lawyer to the Prince Regent. His wife, Charlotte, was responsible for the establishment of Holmwood's first church and school.
Emmeline Pethick Lawrence of the Mascot (later the Dutch House), South Holmwood - suffragette, campaigner for social justice, women’s rights and world peace, and treasurer of the Women's Social and Political Union. See Suffragettes in the Surrey Hills page and Publications.
Frederick William Pethick Lawrence of the Mascot, South Holmwood - philanthropist, journalist, campaigner for peace and for the independence of India and funder of the suffragette movement; later Labour MP and Secretary of State for India in Attlee's government. John Gough Nichols of Holmwood Park - antiquarian and publisher of the 19th century Gentleman's Magazine.
George Rennie of Holmwood Lodge, North Holmwood - bridge designer, civil and mechanical engineer and designer of the Royal Navy's first screw-propelled vessel, the Dwarf.
E. Arnot Robertson of Templeton, South Holmwood - popular 1930s novelist and radio personality in the 1950s and 60s.
Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt - never resident in Holmwood the American millionaire who died on the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 is commemorated in a memorial at the roadside between Mid and South Holmwood where he often raced his coach and horses.
Christopher Whall of Ada Cottage, Inholms Lane - stained glass artist of the Arts and Crafts movement whose daughter, Veronica, also became a notable artist in glass.
